Catalytic Capital

“Catalytic capital is way more than a programme; it is the common thread that helps us mobilise philanthropic, patient and commercial capital.” - Roberta Bosurgi, CEO, Impact Europe

Increasing knowledge about catalytic capital and supporting its deployment have been at the heart of Impact Europe’s collaboration with the Catalytic Capital Consortium (C3). After sparking a global discussion, gathering practitioners, collecting case studies, and publishing the Catalysing Impact, whitepaper, we are now launching a dedicated Catalytic Capital Community of Practice (CoP) — the first and only space in Europe specifically designed for catalytic capital providers to connect, learn, and collaborate.

This new community is open to all Impact Europe members who are exploring, deploying, or advancing catalytic capital. Through regular online gatherings, a tailored training, and an in-person meeting at Impact Week 2025, the CoP aims to:

  • create a dedicated space for peer learning and exchange for European catalytic capital providers
  • build a shared understanding of catalytic capital practices, tools, and mechanisms
  • identify gaps in research and market knowledge that hinder catalytic capital deployment, and co-create a research agenda to address these
  • connect European practitioners to the global catalytic capital conversation through the C3 partnership
  • raise awareness within the broader Impact Europe membership about the importance of catalytic capital and its role in the continuum of capital
  • ultimately, foster more deployment of catalytic capital in Europe to unlock new solutions and mobilise more private capital into high-impact opportunities

Coming in 2025

> Catalytic Capital Community of Practice

In 2025, Impact Europe becomes the European home for Catalytic Capital.

Together, we aim to build a shared understanding of catalytic capital in the European context, close knowledge gaps, and encourage more catalytic deployment across the investment spectrum — in short, mainstreaming catalytic capital across Europe.

The Catalytic Capital Community of Practice will be built around six touchpoints throughout the year:

  • 28 April – Kick-off meeting (online) | Register now
  • 7 May– Catalytic Capital Fundamentals: crash course (online)
  • 27 May Gathering #1 (online)
  • 8 July – Gathering #2 (online)
  • 4 September – Gathering #3 (online)
  • 15 October – Gathering #4 (online)
  • 19-20 November – Gathering at Impact Week (in-person)

Beyond these sessions, CoP members will also have opportunities to showcase their own work and connect with peers who are leading the cultural shift to catalytic capital that our ecosystem urgently needs.
