Founded in 1994, Fondation Demeter, a French foundation under the auspices of Fondation de France, aims to help charities improve their operating processes and governance principles so as to make the best use of their resources and to become self-sufficient.
The Foundation focuses on organisations involved in humanitarian, social and economic work, but does not limit its investment scope geographically. Demeter's main investment criterion is potential social impact of the programmes it supports, which it assesses on the ground by tracking social data, such as school attendance, housing quality, women's empowerment or vaccination and nutrition analysis.
Relationships with beneficiaries typically last between five and seven years, beginning with advisory assistance and progressing to financial support after six to twelve months
