Kick-off EVPA’s 2020 Annual Conference with our Crash Course on Venture Philanthropy and Social Investment (VP/SI). The course will provide an introduction to venture philanthropy through the EVPA e-learning platform and an interactive live session on 21 September from 9 to 12 CEST. Participants will have the opportunity to hear first-hand impact stories from different European actors from the EVPA community
The live session of the Crash Course on Venture Philanthropy and Social Investment will take place in the morning on the first day of EVPA’s Annual Conference. The online course foresees a live dynamic session where participants can interact with experienced speakers and work on practical case studies in break-out rooms. Before the live session, readings and preparatory assignments on the main VP/SI practices and trends will be made available through EVPA’s interactive online learning platform. During the course you will have the chance to hear from an investor for impact and one of its investee organisation about their practical experience on how the venture philanthropy approach strengthens social purpose organisations and maximises their impact. The discussion will also focus on the three core practices of the VP/SI approach: tailored financing, impact measurement and management and non-financial support. Furthermore, you will explore how the different actors (e.g. impact funds and foundations) are practicing VP/SI.
The live training session consists of discussion, intimate group work, live presentations and interactive tools with ample time for Q&A to exchange with peers and speakers.

The training is suitable for all interested to learn more about the VP/SI approach, and how it can be applied to their organisations, for newcomers into the space and for people looking for new inspiration in innovative financing to tackle social issues.

Jamy Goewie
Jamy Goewie is partner at shærpa, the agency behind SI2 Fund and INZET. She has launched two initiatives promoting youth-entrepreneurship in Africa and Asia, one of which she turned into an international NGO.
In 2014 she launched Ashoka Netherlands which she managed for more than four years. From 2017 to 2020 Jamy was community and market development director of EVPA. She was awarded most talented newcomer in the NGO sector in 2006 and was invited to join the European Young Leaders in 2016. Jamy has held several NGO board positions and is special ambassador to the German Financing Agency for Social Enterpreneurship.
Francois Gerard
François Gerard is founder and managing director of Helpper. This fast-growing social enterprise connects vulnerable people in need of home support with helpful neighbours through a digital peer-to-peer platform. It won the 'Care Entrepreneur' award in 2017 and the audience award of 'Radicale vernieuwers' (radical innovators) in 2019.
Pieter Oostlander
Pieter Oostlander is the founder of shærpa and was appointed Fund Manager when SI2 Fund and shærpa merged in 2015. Pieter has been active in the social investment sector since 2004.
As a director of Noaber Foundation he built its service organization, which ultimately led to the founding of shærpa. His ambition is to make social impact and value creation (in addition to creating shareholder value) the core of his professional activities. Since 10 years, Pieter serves on the Board of the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA), 3 years of which as the Chair. Pieter is also a member of the board of directors of Social Value International. Prior to his career in the social investment sector, Pieter held various executive finance positions in manufacturing and IT companies.
Sara Seganti
Sara is Impact Europe's Training Manager. She joined EVPA in 2017 to structure and to further develop the Training Academy activities, after more than ten years working as a project and impact manager, and as a trainer in the social impact field.
Before, Sara provided secretariat support to the Italian Advisory Board to the Social Impact Investment Taskforce established under the UK's Presidency of the G8. She is today the Secretary General of Social Impact Agenda per l'Italia, the Italian network for impact investing. She is a graduate in political philosophy and holds a master's degree in management of social enterprises from Bocconi Business School.
Gianluca Gaggiotti
Gianluca Gaggiotti is Knowledge Manager at Impact Europe. He focuses on data analysis and content development of several research-related initiatives.
Gianluca joined Impact Europe in 2017, and since then has developed an in-depth knowledge on the impact ecosystem and all the actors involved in it. Gianluca has previously worked as a Research Assistant for several project related to development and social network economics at Bocconi University.
He holds a Master degree in Economics and Social Sciences at Bocconi University with a thesis on the effect of terrorism on political outcome in the US.
