During this course EVPA members and Annual Conference participants have the opportunity to hear first-hand stories from different actors from all over Europe who will explain how they practice Venture Philanthropy and Social Investments (VP/SI): their funding, impact measurement and non-financial support models. This year combine your participation to the course with the ImpactFest and get a perfect understanding of the local social ecosystem in the Netherlands.
The day will start with an introduction on the main VP/SI practices and trends. After that a venture philanthropy organisation and an investee will be on stage to discuss, starting from their practical experience, about the venture philanthropy approach to strengthen social purpose organisations and maximise their impact. Furthermore, we will explore how the different actors (e.g. impact funds and foundations) are practicing Venture Philanthropy and Social Investments by showcasing some relevant examples coming from the EVPA members with a solid experience in the sector.
At EVPA we believe peer to peer learning is a key component to move the Venture Philanthropy practice forward. This is why in the afternoon we will organise a workshop in which the participants will have the chance to meet, exchange and orientate with the other delegates. At the same time, the EVPA team members will introduce you to the EVPA Annual Conference, and will guide you through the agenda to help you focus on what is most interesting for you. After that, we will all join the ImpactFest to meet curated social innovators (SPOs) and celebrate "doing good and doing business".
Who should attend?
The training is suitable for all interested to learn more about Venture Philanthropy and Social Investment, and how it can be applied to their organisations, for newcomers into the space and for people looking for new inspiration in innovative financing to tackle social issues.

Please note that EVPA Members and Conference Members have priority access to this training and pay 50% of regular fee. EVPA members can also benefit from a number of travel scholarships reserved only to them.

Celia Tennant
Chief Executive at Inspiring Scotland. With 20 years' leadership experience in the private sector, chief executive Celia Tennant joined Inspiring Scotland at its inception in 2009.
With 20 years' leadership experience in the private sector, chief executive Celia Tennant joined Inspiring Scotland at its inception in 2009. Inspiring Scotland has managed over £100 million of funds invested in the Scottish voluntary sector, to tackle youth unemployment, a lack of free play opportunities for children, increased support in early years, and support for disadvantaged communities to harness their own potential.
She is a voluntary board member for the Building Safer Communities Programme Board, the Common Purpose Advisory Group, and is Chair of Building Recovery-centred Communities and Reducing Stigma Group, established by the Partnership for Action on Drugs in Scotland. Celia is also a Director of the Winning Scotland Foundation.
Martijn Blom
Martijn is Impact Europe's Impact Funds Advisor. In past years he was an active impact investment practitioner at Hivos Impact Investments, where he was responsible for investor relations at the Hivos Food & Lifestyle Fund.
Martijn has been active as an entrepreneur since 2003 at JongeHonden and started investing in startups from 2007 onwards. He has expertise in impact investment particularly. He is co-founder of Dutch business angel network De Investeerdersclub, a co-chair of EBAN Impact and member of the Investment Committee of the Brabant Startup Fund.
Michelle de Rijk
In her four years as Impact Investment Manager at DOEN Participaties B.V., Michelle gained profound experience in the world of impact investing.

She developed a particular interest in energy access and learned a great deal on the ground during her 4-month internship at SELCO Solar in Bangalore, India. At DOEN she is amongst others responsible for DOEN's energy-related investment in East-Africa and India. Michelle holds a master's degree in Business Studies, International Management from the University of Amsterdam.
Alessia Gianoncelli
With a decade of experience in the social investment space, as part of her long journey at Impact Europe, the investing for impact network, Alessia contributes to build the impact investing market, by supporting impact investors and all impact stakeholders in connecting, exchanging, learning from each other, and providing them with research, data insights and capacity building opportunities. Alessia aims at accelerating impact by focusing on building partnerships with other networks and relevant actors in the field, sharing learning and good practices, breaking silos, and facilitating the creation and the exchange of knowledge.
In her capacity as Impact Europe Director of Knowledge and Programs, Alessia leads a team of 8 young enthusiastic professionals working on research activities, content and programs development, programs management, data collection, and community engagement.
Alessia co-authored publications, practical cases, and articles on topics such as venture philanthropy, impact measurement and management, impact strategies, the European impact ecosystem, tailored and hybrid finance. Thanks to her research, she prominently contributed to the Impact Europe narrative around investing for impact and to the debate on the different nuances of impact investing. Alessia is invited to speak at international conferences and give guest lectures at European Universities and Business Schools (e.g., ESADE Center for Social Impact, Nova School of Business and Economics, Luiss – Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli, INSEAD Business School in Paris, Solvay Brussels School Economics & Management).
Alessia also cooperates with Impact Europe's sister organisations in Latin America, Asia and Africa (GAIN, Latimpacto, AVPN and AVPA) to strengthen the collaboration among actors active in the global impact ecosystem, by sharing learning, facilitating the exchange of experiences, contributing to scale successes across regions.
Lena Vasilopoulou
Lena is EVPA's Training Officer and she is responsible for the designing of the organisation's learning offer.
Lena joined EVPA as a Training Intern in December 2017. She holds a MSc in Educational Sciences from KU Leuven and a BSc in Chemistry. She specialized in Professional Learning for both profit and non-profit organisations and in Designing Learning Environments. Lena has many years of experience as a private tutor and science teacher. She also offers voluntarily educational consulting in Team Magma which supports the educational significance of games.
